This competency is weighted ~10% of your overall clerkship evaluation.)
For simplicity’s sake we arbitrarily limit this competency to communication with patients and their families. (Your interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues are assessed in systems-based practice.) This competency is difficult to assess using a portfolio as it very much relies on direct observation. However, we have provided you an opportunity to get anonymous feedback from your patients. Usually this feedback is very positive but sometimes it can alert you to certain practices or styles that are not as effective as you might think. This type of feedback is rather unique and I make sure to include it in the comments I provide to Dr. Duff for inclusion in your Dean’s letter. It is pretty powerful to say that actual patients evaluated your interpersonal skills and rated you as outstanding.
