Patient Care

(This competency is weighted ~35% of your overall clerkship evaluation.)

This is the bread and butter of why we are here and of what you will do everyday on the clerkship. When you are a resident, this competency will be evaluated globally. However, the clerkship directors believe that we can give you more constructive feedback if we break this competency down into the components of history taking, physical examination, information management (the interpretation, integration, and presentation of data into a thoughtful assessment and plan), and procedural skills. The following are suggested ways to demonstrate competency in this category:

  1. The Medical Write-Up - guidelines for writing your H&P’s
    (4 Required)
  2. Observed physical examinations
  3. Sample progress notes
  4. Sample Write-up
  5. Criteria for evaluating the write-ups
  6. Mini-CEX (Description page) - Mini-CEX (Presentation, History & PE)
