American Cancer Society Chris DiMarco Institutional Research Grant

Attention Junior Investigators!

Through the “American Cancer Society Chris DiMarco Institutional Research Grant”, the University of Florida provides the opportunity for newly independent investigators to receive funding for cancer-related research in the areas of basic science, preclinical, epidemiology, clinical, cancer control, psychosocial and behavioral, health service, and health policy research, cancer in the poor and underserved, and childhood cancer.

Maximum award $30,000 for one year

ELIGIBILITY:  At the time of application, applicants must be:

  • Independent, self-directed investigators early in their careers, for whom the institution must provide research facilities or space customary for an independent investigator.
  • Within six cumulative years of their first independent research or faculty appointment.
  • United States citizens, noncitizen nationals, or permanent residents of the United States.  Permanent residents must submit, with the application, notarized evidence indicating they have an Alien Registration Receipt Card of have been approved for the issuance of such card as evidenced by an official passport stamp of the United States Immigration Service and that the form number of the card is I-551.   

INELIGIBLE: 

  • Applicants who were previously funded by this program
  • Applicants with nationally peer reviewed funding

Letters of Intent are due on October 15th.
Full applications are due on November 15th. 

REVIEW PROCESS:  Experts in various areas of cancer research who comprise the ACS-IRG review committees will review the applications. There will be two review committees and the basic/translational science applications will be reviewed separately from the behavioral/epidemiological/psychosocial applications. The reviews will be provided to the applicant following notification of awards.  For projects using human subjects or animals, funds will be allocated upon approval from IRB or IACUC. 

REPORTING REQUIREMENTS:  At the end of the budget period, grantees are required to submit a report summarizing progress made on each specific aim.  Grantees may also be asked to interact with the local ACS division in the form of a seminar and/or lab tour.
