Dr. Pauly is a graduate of Duke University. He trained in the MD/PhD programs at Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Alabama in Birmingham. After completing his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital he joined the faculty at the University of Florida in 1997.

Academic Interests:

Dr. Pauly is Associate Professor of Medicine with tenure at the University of Florida College of Medicine.  He has a research background in molecular cardiology and cardiac metabolism.  His laboratory focuses on genetic factors and stem cell treatments for heart failure.  He holds several investigator-initiated research grants that have been funded by the State of Florida Department of Health, the American Heart Association, the National Institutes of Health, and private industry.  He received the Melvin L. Marcus Young Investigator Award from the American Heart Association in 1997, and he is the 2004 recipient of the Researcher of the Year Award presented by the Florida Chapter of the American College of Cardiology.  Dr. Pauly is an active reviewer of grant applications to the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association.  His publication record includes 57 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.  He is an active reviewer of research manuscripts to journals in cardiology including Circulation, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Clinical Cardiology, The Medical Letter, American Heart Journal, American Journal of Cardiology, Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, and European Journal of Clinical Investigation.  Dr. Pauly is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians, and the American Heart Association.  He is also active in the Heart Failure Society of America, the International Society for Heart Research, and his local Alachua County Medical Society.
