Waldo Fisher, M.D.

Professional Summary
Dr. Fisher received his M.D. and Ph.D. (biochemistry) degrees at the
University of Pennsylvania and internship and residencies at
Presbyterian Hospital (Philadelphia) and the Peter Bent Brigham
Hospital. He joined the faculty of the College of Medicine in 1965
and has held appointments in the Department of Biochemistry and the
Graduate Faculty in addition to the Department of Medicine. He
chaired the Medical Student Research Fellowship Committee from
1969-79 and served as Interim Chief of the Division of Endocrinology
and Metabolism in 1974-75 and again in 1992-95. He retired in 2000.
Clinical and Research Activities
During thirty-five years on this faculty Dr. Fisher’s research and clinical activities have focused on plasma lipoprotein structure and metabolism and on related diseases. His laboratory had continual funding from NIH throughout these years, and he was a Visiting Scientist at NIH on three occasions. In 1996 he was a recipient of the Faculty Research Award in Clinical Science by the College of Medicine.
