Professional Summary

M. Cecilia Lansang, M.D., M.P.H.Dr. Lansang received her Doctor of Medicine degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines, in 1992. She completed her internship and her residency in Internal Medicine at the Santo Tomas University Hospital, Manila. She ranked second place in the Physician Licensure Examination in 1993, received the Philippine College of Physicians Annual Award for Excellence in Internal Medicine in 1996 during residency, and subsequently topped the written examination given by the Philippine Specialty Board of Internal Medicine. She proceeded to do her clinical and research fellowship in Endocrinology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. While doing her fellowship, she also received her Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health. She was an Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School before transferring to the University of Florida in late 2003, where she is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine. She is also an International Affiliate Staff of the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, assisting with research in the Division of Endocrinology.

Clinical Interests and Activities

Dr. Lansang’s main clinical interest is in the intensive management of diabetes, including management of patients who have undergone organ transplantation. She continues to be involved in programs for intensive in-hospital diabetes management.  Other interests include thyroid nodules, polycystic ovarian syndrome and hyperparathyroidism.

Research Activities

Dr. Lansang has published on the angiotensin-mediated control of the renal hemodynamics in normal and diabetic subjects.  She is involved in clinical trials on new treatments for diabetes.  She heads various projects geared toward the improvement of inpatient diabetes management.
