Dr. Archibald is the hospital epidemiologist for Shands Hospital at the University of Florida, and adjunct professor of epidemiology in the Division of Epidemiology at the University of Florida, Gainesville. In addition, Dr. Archibald is the Medical Director of Regeneration Technologies Inc., a tissue processing company in Florida. Previously, Dr. Archibald was the Medical Director of the Epidemic Information Exchange at CDC, and a Medical Epidemiologist in the National Center for Infectious Diseases, CDC. He is a Fellow of Royal College of Physicians of London and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, United Kingdom. He received his undergraduate degree from Harvard, his medical degree from University College Hospital, London, and completed postgraduate training in internal and tropical medicine in London, Oxford, and Liverpool. Subsequently, Dr. Archibald completed infectious diseases and microbiology fellowships at Duke University, North Carolina, and served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer at CDC. At CDC he has investigated and supervised numerous outbreak investigations and conducted various studies in sub-Saharan Africa, Thailand, and Vietnam. Dr. Archibald has published numerous papers on the epidemiology and microbiology of bloodstream infections in Africa and Southeast Asia, diabetes in the tropics, outbreak investigations in various healthcare settings, and on antimicrobial use and resistance among nosocomial pathogens in the U.S. In January 2005, Dr. Archibald received his higher doctoral degree in the medical sciences.
